Eight years in the running, Argyle High School’s Challenge Day Club has taught students the importance of serving others.
“Eagles helping Eaglets” is an initiative of the organization designed to provide elementary students with an after-school opportunity to complete their homework while receiving mentorship from high school students.

Former PTA President Jana Weaver says although she does not have children at the elementary level anymore, she sees how this organization can bring comfort to the parent of a child at Hilltop Elementary.
“It would make me feel good about where my kids are going to school,” Weaver said. “To know that the community cares about them and wants what is best for them to help them succeed.”
Meeting once a week during school and several other times throughout the year for various after school activities, Challenge Day Club has become a popular organization at AHS to join.
Club sponsor Jeanna Sutton says the elementary students are not the only ones who reap benefits from the after-school mentorship.
“This program makes our high school kids more accountable to one another,” Sutton said. “With ‘Eagles helping Eaglets,’ these students know the little kids are looking up to them. This helps them make wise choices.”
Sofia Shubert is a senior who has been an active organization member for the past two years.
Besides being able to add the Challenge Day Club experience to her resume, Shubert enjoys helping students study.

“Last year I had a boy who had a hard time focusing,” Shubert said. “It was tough. After we got to know each other, I saw him focus more and get comfortable around me. Eventually he would get here and we would immediately start on homework.”
“Eagles helping Eaglets” is one of three main initiatives of the high school club.
Other events the students participate in include mentoring 5th and 6th graders at the Intermediate School and visiting the elderly at a Denton nursing home.
